Walkable/Bikeable Communities

The RC&D/GIS Resource Center has partnered with Trailnet and James Pona & Associates to provide formal bicycle facilities planning services to communities within the St. Louis Metro region. The project team received a contract in Spring 2006 from the Transportation Improvement Program through the East-West Gateway Council of Governments (EWG) and the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Through the Walkable/Bikeable Communities program, selected communities will now have the opportunity to receive a formal Bicycle/Pedestrian Facilities Plan and Implementation Strategy. Phase I communities include Vinita Park, Festus/Crystal City, Sunset Hills, Bridgeton, Lake St.Louis/O'Fallon/Wentzville, Gerald and New Haven. The Facilities Team is pursuing additional funding for Phase II, which will enable more communities to take advantage of the program. Project funding will come from three sources - 80% from the Federal Enhancement Fund, 10% from Trailnet match and 10% from the local community.
