MMRP Regional Corridor Collaborative Planning Study (2007)
This two-year study is nearing the end of its first year. The collaborative planning effort focuses on three areas, continuing the reach assessment efforts started by the MMRP, developing a hydrogeomorphic model (HGM) to help evaluate landscape level ecosystem restoration options for the Middle Mississippi River corridor, and building upon the MMRP Coordination Plan to establish regional goals, objectives, strategies, and performance metrics. Building upon the MMRP plan will include reaching out to new partners (both traditional and non-traditional), working with the partnership to identify the Federal, state, and private programs that can be used as restoration “tools” in the MMR, and building upon the goals and objectives identified in the Coordination Plan. Reach assessment work is in full swing. By early July, all five reaches will have held workshops with regional stakeholders to help identify regional needs and opportunities. These meetings will culminate in individual reach assessments reports, which will be completed this fall. HGM work is also underway, with work focused on ground-truthing existing data and constructing the data matrix used to establish existing conditions and potential future conditions. The first set of maps is expected in July. A draft report on the results of the HGM work will be completed this fall. Work on regional goal setting will start later this year, through a series of focused workshops with interested stakeholders. Questions about the study can be directed to Brian Johnson at 314-331-8146 or brian.l.johnson@mvs02.usace.army.mil.
