Hole in the Doughnut Land Conservation Project: Recognizing that existing conservation programs were not fully meeting the needs of landowners along the Kaskaskia River in Clinton, St. Clair and Washington Counties, staff developed a special program to ensure that forest fragmentation of one of the Midwest’s most significant bottomland hardwood forest was minimized.

Bluff Ecosystem Restoration Project: Working with the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission staff was able to raise funds that were used to hire contractors to clear invasive species off native hill prairies in southern St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph Counties. Many hill prairie sites, identified in the 1970s update of the Illinois Natural Area Inventory, have been lost due to competition from invasive species and lack of landowner maintenance.

Southwestern Illinois Lands at Risk: Understanding that the landscape of southwestern Illinois will undergo many changes over the next several decades, Southwestern Illinois Resource Conservation & Development invited resource managers from throughout the region to provide input on those areas that they felt were extremely important to protect.
